What the course covers

1) Initiating and planning the AIMS project

• Project mandate, leadership commitment, stakeholders and planning.
• Build a highlevel PID and a RACI for roles and communication.
• Analyse organisational factors that help or hinder success.

2) Scope, context and governance

• Define AIMS scope and boundaries using internal and external factors.
• Set governance structures, responsibilities and operational requirements across the AI lifecycle.

3) Aligning with existing management systems

• Map overlaps with ISO 27001 and ISO 9001.
• Identify integration opportunities and coordinate change control and incident management.

4) Ethics and responsible AI

• Apply fairness, accountability, transparency and human oversight.
• Embed ethical requirements into policies, design and deployment, and evaluate social impact.

5) Risk assessment 

• Identify AI specific threats and vulnerabilities.
• Evaluate risk across lifecycle stages, and select treatments and controls.
• Develop the risk register, SoA and risk treatment plan (aligned with ISO 31000 principles).

6) Impact assessment 

• Assess legal, ethical and societal impacts.
• Evaluate fairness, discrimination, explainability and human rights risks.
• Recommend mitigations and document results for accountability.

7) Documentation and competence

• Develop core AIMS documents and maintain version controlled records.
• Assign responsibilities, build training and awareness, and address skills gaps.

8) Compliance and monitoring

• Build a compliance register and tracking processes (e.g. EU AI Act, GDPR, OECD AI Principles).
• Define KPIs, collect data and evaluate performance for improvement.

9) Internal audit, management review and continual improvement

• Plan and run internal audits and management reviews.
• Implement corrective actions, track improvements and close lifecycle gaps.

10) Certification readiness

• Evaluate documentation and controls, identify nonconformities and recommend actions to pass external assessment or certification.
